PURPOSE:To uniformize the resin coating amount of a base material and to prevent the adhesion of a residual resin to the surface of a roll, in impregnating a long strip like base material with resin varnish using the roll, by using air in place of a knife. CONSTITUTION:A coating roll 3 is arranged in an impregnation tank 2 receiving resin varnish 1 in such a state that the lower part thereof is immersed in the resin varnish 1 and a doctor roll 4 is arranged to the diagonally upward part of the coating roll 3 in a state levitated from the resin varnish 1 and contacted with the coating roll 3 and, further, an air blow-off slit 5 is arranged to the diagonally upward part of the doctor roll 4. An idler roll 7 is arranged to the upper part of the coating roll 3 so as to provide a clearance permitting the passage of long strip like kraft paper 6, for example, having a thickness of 0.2 mm. By this constitution, the amount of the resin varnish 1 raised to the surface of the coating roll 3 is controlled by the doctor roll 4. The resin varnish adhered to the doctor roll 4 is completely removed, for example, by high pressure air of 50 kg/cm<2> blown out to the surface of the doctor roll 4 from the air blow-off slit 5.
