PURPOSE:To form a uniform and smooth coating layer having no liquid sump, by sucking the excessive part of liquid paint applied from the vicinities of both ends of a body to be painted having a cylindrical or crown shape. CONSTITUTION:In applying liquid paint to the surface of a cylindrical body like roller, a rubber coated roller 10 is horizontally held and, while the roller 10 is rotated around a core shaft, liquid paint 11 such as a polytetrafluoroethylene resin dispersion is applied to the surface of the roller 10 by a dip-coating method. After coating, the rotation of the roller 10 is continued and, during a time when the liquid paint 11 keeps flowability, the excessive liquid paint is sucked on both end part sides of the roller 10 from the suction nozzles 12 of the suction devices arranged in the vicinity of both ends of the roller 10. As a result, there is no liquid sump on the coating layer after drying and good finish is obtained.
