PURPOSE:To reduce the ratio of the NO2-component in NOx to a large extent by converting CO and HC in combustion exhaust gas to CO2 and H2O, and NO2 therein to NO, by using a catalyst wherein zirconium oxide and iron oxide are added to palladium at certain ratios. CONSTITUTION:A dinitrodiaminepalladium nitrate solution, zirconium oxynitrate and iron nitrate are dissolved in ion exchanged water at some mixing ratios and citric acid is subsequently added to the resulting solution. A cloth carrier after wash coat is immersed in the prepared solution while the impregnated carrier is dried and subsequently baked at 400-800 deg.C in an electric furnace to discharge the gas generated therein by decomposition and a mixture of palladium, zirconium and iron oxide is supported by the carrier. The mixing mol ratio of metal palladium, zirconium oxide and iron oxide is set to a range of 1:5:2-1:50:20. When this catalyst for purifying exhaust gas wherein said mixture is supported by the surface of the carrier is used, CO, HC and NO2 in an oxygen excessive atmosphere are effectively reduced to a large extent. |
