PURPOSE:To produce optical fiber with high efficiency without interrupting wire drawing by controlling the wire-drawing velocity to a velocity permitting winding of the wire if the disconnection of the optical fiber is detected in a screening stage. CONSTITUTION:A parent material 9 for optical fiber supplied to a spinning furnace 2 from a feeder 1 of the optical fiber is drawn by melting, then, optical fiber filament 10 is formed after measuring its outside dia. in an outside dia. measuring gauge 3. Coating of primer and buffer are performed thereon, then, the fiber is taken up by a taking-up roller 5 as optical fiber core wire 10'. Then, the core wire is fed to a screening stage and wound around a winder 8 after passing once a circuit between a screening sieves 6, 6'. When the core wire 10' is disconnected, the screening sieve 6' is dropped and is allowed to contact with a limit switch 7. The contact is sensed by a computer 4, and a signal for stopping feed of the parent material to a feeder 1 is outputted. Thus, the feeding velocity of the parent material 9 of the optical fiber and the taking up velocity of the optical fiber are controlled so as to maintain the velocity of the wire drawing at a velocity permitting winding of the fiber. |
