PURPOSE:To enhance the drying yield of wet gel and to shorten the drying time thereof by performing the drying of wet gel in the production of glass by a sol-gel method on spherical beads. CONSTITUTION:In the production of glass by a sol-gel process wherein metallic alkoxide is used as a starting raw material, wet gel obtained by allowing hydrolysate of metallic alkoxide to gel is dried by laying spherical beads to the under surface of the wet gel in the drying process thereof. As the drying of the above-mentioned wet gel, for example, spherical beads are laid on the bottom of a vessel and wet gel drawn out from underwater is put thereon and successively a cover opened with a hole of 0.5% degree of pore is put and drying can be finished by performing the drying at 60 deg.C for one week. |
