The invention relates to a safety harness (belt). This safety harness (belt) comprises a substantially inextensible strap 2 having a high mechanical strength, in particular in tension, for example of the order of at least one or two tonnes, as well as at least one buffer element 4, which is substantially inextensible, for example of leather, intended to be interposed between the strap 2 and the individual wearing the harness (belt), in order to improve his comfort, and is characterised in that the said buffer element 4 comprises at least one intermediate elastic band 6 allowing extension by pulling, whereas the said strap 2 is formed by at least two separate strap elements 2a, 2b connected together by means 8 allowing limited relative movement of the said strap elements, thereby limiting the extension of the buffer element. The comfort of the individual wearing the harness (belt) is thus improved. <IMAGE>
