The invention relates to a device for recognising objects arranged on a handling support plane, such as a pallet. It therefore relates to a device of this type allowing identification of objects, with a view, for example, to carrying out automatic depalletisation of the latter. Such a device is essentially formed by the combination of a sensor (CCD camera) 3 and an emitter (laser) 4 whose axes make between them an angle x which is controlled such that the coherent light beam scans, in steps, along the ordinate y of the array of the camera 3, the entire upper plane in question. This architecture allows all the co-ordinates to be acquired which, processed by a computation unit, allow reconstruction of the perimeter of the objects. The invention applies in particular to handling techniques, and more particularly to automatic depalletisation. <IMAGE>
