This device for placing sheets of protective material on sheets particularly of bright stainless steel is characterised in that it includes first means 1 for transporting the sheets of stainless steel, above which are arranged means 4 for dispensing protective material in strip form, of a width corresponding approximately to the width of the sheets 2 of stainless steel, pinch rolls 5, 6 mounted idly, intended to apply the protective material against the sheets of stainless steel and thus to entrain the protective material from the dispensing means 4 as a function of the displacement of the sheets of stainless steel, second means 7 for transporting the sheets of stainless steel, arranged in the extension of the first 1, and means 8 for cutting the strip of protective material to the length of the sheets of stainless steel, arranged between the pinch rolls 5, 6 mounted idly and the second transport means 7. <IMAGE>
