PURPOSE:To safely and rapidly treat a waste gas, by passing the waste gas after treating a food with a gas containing ammonia through water and dissolving the ammonia in the water. CONSTITUTION:Aqueous ammonia sprayed with gaseous carbon dioxide is brought into contact with a perishable food, e.g. meat, fishes or shellfishes, vegetable, fruit, etc., or processed food, e.g. ham, sausage, etc., and the discharge waste gas is treated. In the process, the waste gas is passed through water in a water tank 45 and dissolved therein. The water tank 45 is equipped with a water feed passage 49 and water discharge passage 50. Perforated plates 48 are preferably provided at shallower positions than the end part of a waste gas feed pipe 47.
