NEW MATERIAL:(N-oxypyridine-2-thio)methylstyrene of formula I. USE:A mildew-proofing agent. It is a nonvolatile polymerizable compound harmless to man and animal, hardly soluble in water and capable of keeping its activity in a product containing said compound. It can impart mildew-proofing property to a molded article such as plastic sheet, film, container, fiber, etc., in the form of monomer or polymer before or after molding. Especially, when the compound is used as a polymer, it can be applied to a polymer blend or a molded article to impart mildew-proofing property having excellent durability. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting chloromethylstyrene of formula II with sodium 2-pyridinethiol-1-oxide of formula III having mildew-proofing property in an organic solvent such as ethanol.
