PURPOSE:To enable the continuous casting of high Si steel and to improve the productivity by specifying cooling velocity and temp. of cast slab surface at the time of solidifying at the prescribed depth from the cast slab surface. CONSTITUTION:At the time of continuously casting the steel containing 4-7 wt.% silicon, the cast slat is cooled, so as to become >= 1 deg.C/sec cooling velocity at the time of solidification for the cast slab surface layer part, which is <=10 mm from the surface of cast slab, and held to >= 600 deg.C the surface temp. of cast slab. At the time of continuously casting the cast slab under this condition, the ferritic crystal grain size of the cast slat surface layer part is made to <= 10mum, and in case of impressing bending and straightening stresses, the surface cracking is not developed.
