The invention relates to a device for cleaning chain conveyors. Its primary use will be in materials handling and it will be particularly used in the food industries where chains become heavily soiled, for example in canning houses, dairies, biscuit factories or the like. The chain 1 is formed from a large number of links connected and pivoting together and driven by a drive member 2 so that the chain has a carrying side 3 and a return side 4. According to the invention, the cleaning device 7 comprises means for washing and brushing the links, these means being locatable in a fixed position on the return side 4 of the chain 1 on either side of each of the faces of the links and driven when the chain 1 is running in order to clean it. <IMAGE>
