The article to be folded is gripped between an endless belt (9) and a slide (8) between its entry into and its exit from the machine, guides (10, 11) folding the edges of the article towards the centre, the article being moved away from the slide (8) in such a way that its front part falls onto a foldable flap (13), which effects a horizontal fold before the article is transferred to an exit slide (14).
