A filter apparatus (10) is described for the adsorption of pollutants which operates with a circulated wetting agent (19), which is conducted by a pump device (18) via ducts and, if required, a preheating bath (22) into the region above macroporous plastic plates (17) and from there, wetting the plastic plates (17), flows downwards as a result of gravity. As a result, the pollutant adsorbtion is very substantially improved. Wetting agents (19) which are useful are preferably glycerol, glycol and mixtures thereof (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
