A collapsible lamp shade (10) includes a pair of resiliently compressible channel-defining members (46, 47) projecting inwardly from the interior surface (11) of the shade cover (19) to engage the periphery (21) of a shade frame (20) in a channel (16) having an opening which is wider than the frame thickness. A structurally independent arcuately biased wire (64) is selectively threaded into a sleeve (61) at the lower edge (15) of the cover to rigidify and radially expand the lower edge (15). In the preferred embodiment the upper edge channel is defined by a cloth strip (41) secured to the interior surface of the cover and having two transversely spaced sleeves (46, 47) extending in respective annular paths. Each sleeve contains a resiliently compressible length of material (48, 49), such as twine, defining respective ribs which are resiliently compressible during assembly.
|
