Process for changing or replacing a pasty or liquid product with another which is to be introduced into a succession of thermoplastic containers bearing a decorative and/or informative feature. A minimal buffer volume (VM) of the first product contained in the dosing and distributing apparatus (6) and in a buffer tank (24, 25) is determined, said volume buffer (VM) corresponding to the sum of the amounts of the first product still to be introduced into the receptacles before the latter are replaced in the area of the filling point (6) by containers bearing different decorative features; while the installation is in operation, the first master tape (13) and/or the first covering band (9) is cut transversely at the decoration point (11), at distances from the filling point (6) corresponding to the consumption lengths of the first master tape (13) and/or the first covering band (9), by receptacles receiving the last amounts of the product from the minimal buffer volume of the first product.
