The invention relates to a windscreen wiper for a motor vehicle. According to the invention, a wiper blade protector (7) with an emergency wiper lip (9) is provided. The wiper blade protector (7) is connected with at least one part of the windscreen wiper in such a manner that the emergency wiper lip (9) lies in front of a wiper lip (6) to be protected. With such a removable wiper blade protector (7), an effective protection of the wiper lip (6) is achieved until the delivery of a new car to a purchaser. Moreover, with the aid of the emergency wiper lip (9), a satisfactory wiping result is obtained in the case of manoeuvring drives which are necessary up to delivery.
