PURPOSE:To obtain optical transmission performance which is excellent in a visible to near IR region by using a polymer or copolymer as a core of a plastic optical fiber having core-cladding structure. CONSTITUTION:Deuterated pentafluorophenyl methacrylate, 0.1mol% azobis tert-butane and 0.1mol% n-butyl mercaptan are mixed in the substantial absence of dust and oxygen and are polymerized for 24hr at 130 deg.C in a hermetic system. After the unreacted monomers are removed under a reduced pressure, the copolymer is melt-extruded simultaneously with a cladding polymer by using a composite mouthpiece, by which the optical fiber is prepd. Spinning is executed at 220 deg.C and a copolymer of hexafluoropropyl methacrylate/MMA is used for the cladding material. |
