PURPOSE:To facilitate comparing required picture in case of read correction by displaying the stored character string picture used for character recognition adjacently to the text picture from the character code of character recognition results. CONSTITUTION:A control means 3 detects the picture control code outputted from an input means 5 in the state where only the text picture and a cursor picture are displayed on a display means 4. When input of the code is detected, the means 3 reads out a character picture from a picture storage means 2 and transfers it to the means 4. Next, the means 3 detects the cursor position on a text memory on the means 4 and uses it as the address of a recognition result means 7. Then, the means 4 changes the display of one-character components of range picture on the cursor picture. The character string picture is so scrolled that the range picture is placed in the position corresponding to the cursor picture, and the character string picture is written and displayed in the video memory position adjacent to the text picture.
