PURPOSE:To obtain a calibration master with high positioning accuracy by fitting a magnet holder to a rack in an oscillatory state and displaying its swing angle, and adhering a pointed magnetic body atop of a magnet facing a magnetism sensing element. CONSTITUTION:When the swing element 28 of the calibration master 20 is rotated, the magnet holder 22 swings on the rack 21 and its swing angle is readable on a swing angle display 33. Calibration is performed by setting the tip of the projection part 25b of the magnetic body fitted to a magnet at a proper position by the element 28 and placing it on a reference base 3a. Then, the swing element 6a on the side of a magnet roller position detector 1 and slide elements 7 and 12 are operated to move magnetism sensing elements 11a and 11b, which are fixed where the outputs of both magnetism sensing elements become equal to each other. Then, the master 20 is replaced with an actual development part and a magnet roller is rotated and fixed where the outputs of the elements 11a and 11b becomes equal to each other. This master 20 has the sharp peak of lines of magnetic force and is improved in positioning accuracy.
