In a centrifuge with a rapidly rotated housing in which two drums with twelve cells each rotate slowly on the second axis at right angles to the axis of rotation, a rapid, predictable mixture jet flows successively in separating cells in the water ring formed from a flat inflow opening. The jet, whose cross-section is infinitely finely adjustable by means of a screw without refitting, flows into a conical nozzle and increases, by means of its widening towards the mouth, the separating length up to the scraping wall by approximately 50%. The solid particles are held in the flat jet as a result of the higher speed over the relatively large length and corresponding centrifugal force. The conical widening of the nozzle reduces the flow-off speed of the water, the somewhat higher ram pressure in the nozzle draws the liquid out of the flat jet and from the nozzle mouth up to the scraping wall. The flat mixture jet which can be adjusted without refitting, and the separating length which can be increased by the conical nozzle produces a higher separating capacity and thus a shortening in time and cheaper and more economical centrifuges by virtue of a smaller design. In conjunction with the adjustable, higher separating capacity as a result of increased separating length and adjustable ram pressure in two large separating cells, machines with up to 800 mm drum diameter with the same centrifugal force up to approximately 300 m<3>/h flow rate can be built. An example of use: powdered brown coal can be fed from the pipeline directly into the furnace via the centrifuge.
