PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity to infrared rays and contrast, and to reduce fog by forming a silver halide emulsion layer composed of silver halide grains spectrally sensitized to infrared rays containing silver chloride. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer formed on a support is obtained by preparing the silver halide grains containing >=50mol% silver chloride and spectrally sensitized to infrared rays in the presence of a compound containing a metal of group VIII of the periodic table, especially, a water-soluble indium salt and/or a water-soluble rhodium salt, such as indium chloride or rhodium chloride, and controlling pH to 5.0-6.5 after chemical ripening with sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, or the like, and pAg to 6.5-8.0 with NaCl, KCl, or the like, thus permitting stability of a coating solution to be improved, sensitivity to infrared rays and contrast to be enhanced, and fog to be reduced. |
