According to the ultra-precise machining method for machining a revolution surface (240) on a workpiece (204) held in position by means of the rotor of a workpiece-holder spindle (1), which rotor is mounted through active magnetic bearings on a slide (202), the proper servo-control frequencies of the bearings are adjusted to values lower than 80 Hz approximately, and the rotation speed of the rotor to a value of the order from 20 to 75 Hz, the radial and axial positions of the rotor of the spindle (1) are selectively modified with respect to a rated position by applying to control circuits of the magnetic bearings reference voltages which vary as a function of the control signals delivered according to the position of the tool (207), and the displacement of the slide (202) is inhibited when the control signals are lower than predetermined values. Application particularly to the machining of atypic revolution surfaces by replication from a template. |
