The invention deals with a shearing machine (1) which lies on the face or goaf side of a face conveyor (2). With the drive gear (13) of its winch or winches (12), this machine (1) engages in a toothed rack (15) which extends over the length of the face conveyor (2) and is located on the opposite side of the face conveyor (2). In a goaf-side arrangement of the machine body (10) it bridges the face conveyor (2) with its supporting arms (7), which lie at both ends of the machine body (10), and in this arrangement as well as in a face-side arrangement of the machine it carries on these supporting arms (7) the cutting drums (5) loosening the mineral. So as not to impair the tooth engagement of the drive gear (13), engaging in the toothed rack (15), of the winch (12) by rolling movements of the machine body (10) about its longitudinal axis, the shearing machine (1) has a swivel axis (9) which runs in the travel direction of the machine and crosses the axis of the output shaft end (21) of the winches (12). The swivel axis (9) connects the machine body (10) to a tubular housing (8) which spans the face conveyor (2) and is supported on a travelling track (39) of the toothed rack (15) or the face conveyor (2). The housing (8) embraces the toothed rack (15) or reaches under its tooth system and encloses a shaft (11) rotatably arranged in it.
