IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO PELT REMOVING METHODS AND/OR APPARATUS

A pelt remover for removing the pelt from an animal carcase suspended by its forelegs has a gripping means (20) which grips a part of the pelt adjacent the neck or shoulders of the animal carcase and progressively peels the pelt from the animal carcase, then the gripping means (20) moves clear of the animal. The translational movement of the gripping means (20) is reversed so that the pelt is released and will drop free of the animal carcase before the gripping means (20) is moved to a position where the means are ready to remove the pelt from a next animal carcase. The pelt remover comprises a frame (7) and a pivotal arm (15) carrying the gripping means (20). The pivotal arm (15) is slideable in relation to a guide (11) in the frame (7). Arm actuating means (12) are provided to cause the arm to be translationally moved in relation to the frame in a direction which causes stripping of a pelt from an animal carcase which is held adjacent to the arm actuating means (12).
