PURPOSE:To set a display area in a desired shape by displaying picture information in accordance with OR in a form of bit information between display area information and picture information stored in first and second storage means. CONSTITUTION:A picture image 31 is inputted from a keyboard 4 and is developed in an image memory 6. An area is inputted with a mouse 11 or the like, and the inputted area is set as the mouse area to develop a window form 32-1 to be masked in an image mask memory 7. An image memory controller 8 operates OR between optional bit information on the memory 6 and that on the memory 7 corresponding to said bit information and develops results in a corresponding position on a video RAM9 as bit information. '0' is stored in the RAM9 as bit information of an area 33-1, and image information is masked and is not displayed in this area, and consequently, image information in an area 33-2 is displayed on a display device 3 as shown in a figure 33.
