PURPOSE:To obtain a material for a magnetic head provided with high saturation magnetization, corrosion resistance and soft magnetism by using a compsn. FexSiyCrz which has >=80% degree of orientation in the {110} face direction and setting specific ratios among weight % x, y and z. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic alloy film, the film plane of which has >=80% degree of orientation in the {110} face direction of the film plane and in which x, y and z, by weight %, satisfy the conditions of 0.5-4 y, 1-10 z and 100 x+y+z, is constituted by using the compsn. FexSiyCrz formed by adding Cr to an Fe-Si alloy oriented with the {110} face in nearly parallel with the film plane. Since Cr is added to the alloy, the excellent corrosion resistance and high saturation magnetization are obtd. and the saturation magnetorestriction is decreased to 1.0X10<-5> or below, by which the soft magnetic material for the magnetic head is obtd.
