PURPOSE:To enable automatic preparation of expanded cake, by placing a mechanism for inserting and removing upper and lower washers to a through- hole of a frame and placing a steaming and kneading mechanism and a baking mechanism between the inserting mechanism and the removing mechanism of the washer. CONSTITUTION:Mechanisms for inserting and removing upper and lower washers to a through-hole of a frame 2 are provided and a steaming and kneading mechanism E and a baking mechanism F are placed between the inserting mechanisms A, C and the removing mechanisms G, H of the washer. An expanded cake can be automatically prepared by this apparatus. The apparatus can be simplified and the size can be reduced by the lack of a compression mechanism and, moreover, an expanded cake keeping the shape of grains can be prepared by the use of a granular material. Since the cake material is transferred in a state clamped between the upper and the lower washers, the falling off of the material during transfer and the sticking to the mechanisms can be prevented to enable the automation of the apparatus.
