PURPOSE:To increase the quantity of the picture information which should be encoded and to make it needless to decide a coordinate which should become a reference in order to simplify the process in case of obtaining the picture information which should be encoded from a mark print by converting the proper picture information indicated on the mark print into the encoded information which is expressed in the size and the number of areas in a prescribed variable density circle region on the picture. CONSTITUTION:The location of the picture information which should be encoded is expressed in the size of the areas in the circle region having the different variable density from the background of the mark print 1. The contents of the picture information which should be encoded is expressed in the number of the small regions having the same variable density to the background of the mark print 1 included in the circle region and the size and the number of areas in the variable density circle region on the picture can be easily obtained by counting the number of picture elements with a picture recognition device 3. Thus the quantity of the picture information which should be encoded can be increased and in case of obtained the picture information which should be encoded from the mark print the coordinate which should be a reference need not be decided, so that the process can be simplified.
