PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal fixing roller having a smooth and crack-free polytetrafluoroethylene resin (PTFE) dispersion by coating the dispersion on the roller at the environmental temp. at which the flow characteristic thereof is not lost, then drying and backing the coating. CONSTITUTION:The PTFE dispersion is coated on the silicone rubber layer formed on the core shaft of the roller at the environmental temp. of <=20 deg.C at which the flow characteristic thereof is not lost and is then subjected to drying and baking at the time of coating the PTFE dispersion on said layer. The adequate environmental temp. for coating is in a 10-20 deg.C, more preferably 10-15 deg.C range. The environmental humidity is specified to >=30%, more preferably 30-70%. The crack-free and smooth PTFE layer is thereby formed.
