PURPOSE:To increase the discharge capacity after initial charge by passing current in a direction opposite to the usual charge until the voltage of a battery becomes negative, then performing the usual initial charge. CONSTITUTION:A 4V, 4Ah lead acid battery is used. As the initial charge, a current of 1.2A is passed in a direction opposite to the usual charge and continued to flow for for about 30 minutes after the voltage becomes negative, then the 4.9V, 1.2A charge is continued for about 16 hours. As shown in the figure, the discharge duration of a battery charged by the usual method is 43 minutes (4A discharge and end voltage is 2.8V), and that of the battery charged by this invention is 46 minutes and 50 seconds. By using this charging method, the capacity of the battery is increased about 9%. |
