A signal processing method for nuclear spectrometers, in which the detector output is of staircase shape modulated with noise. A Peaking time Tp, which produces an optimal signal to noise ratio is set. The so-called base-line filtering interval (A) preceding the actual signal and the signal filtering interval (J) following the actual signal are chosen so that their widths are equal to the width of the optimal peaking time (Tp). The instantaneous signal value measured in the base-line filtering interval (Ai) is subtracted from the instantaneous value measured in the signal filtering interval (Ji), where said instantaneous values (Ai and Ji) are measured in the time scale symmetrically with regard to the rising edge of the signal, and the differences (Ji-Ai) are summed with weighting factors (Wi). …<??>Alternatively, the signal values Ai are weighted (WiAi) and summed, the signal values Ji are weighted (WiJi) and summed, and the difference between the two sums is calculated. The result, in either case, is the desired amplitude with an improved signal to noise ratio. …
…
|
