PURPOSE:To enable the computer of a large capacity main memory to carry out the virtual memory management at high speed and low overhead of a CPU, by using a means to update the number of unreferred time sections in response to the value of a reference flag. CONSTITUTION:Each element of a page index vector 1 is read out of a main memory 11 based on the designation of a page index address register 23 and transferred to a page index register 25. Then the contents of the register 25 are shifted and added together to be transferred to a fetch address register 32 for UIC (number of unreferred time sections). Based on the designation of the register 32, the UIC3 in a real memory table 2 is transferred to a UIC register from a main memory device 11. At the same time, the contents of the register 32 are transferred to a UIC store address register 33. Then the reference bit 14 of a key storage 12 is transferred to a reference bit register 31 by the designation of the register 25. The contents of a UIC register 29 are added together and the result of this addition and '0' are selected by a selector 34 to be written to the main memory device 11 by the designation of the register 33.
