PURPOSE:To prevent the pulsation of delivery pressure and reduce power consumption by detecting time required from startup pressure to shutdown pressure in the operation of a pump motor on a reference current amplitude and making phase-control for the pump motor on the basis of the detected time. CONSTITUTION:In the initial stage of operating a well pump device, a pump motor 6 is operated on a reference current amplitude IO and measurements are taken about time required from startup pressure to shutdown pressure. Then, an optimum pump operation condition is judged from the required time, using the characteristic curves of a water quantity for use. On the basis of the result of judgement, the pump motor 6 is phase controlled to give a predetermined current amplitude. According to the aforesaid constitution, the operation pressure of the pump gives an optimum condition. And it becomes possible to make stable pump operation without any pulsation of delivery pressure and that power consumption can be reduced.
