PURPOSE:To obtain a picture without jag in the edge part of a graphic by using the value of an area buffer and the depth value and the luminance value of picture elements adjacent to the picture elements so as to mix the luminance of the picture element including the edge with the luminance of the picture elements adjacent to the picture elements after processing all the graphic. CONSTITUTION:A scan converter 2 receiver the elements of the graphic pattern and develops them into the picture elements. At this time, the luminances and the depth values of the respective picture elements and the area occupying the picture elements are calculated. The above-mentioned depth values are compared with the depth value of a depth buffer 4 and the respective graphics are deleted in terms of hidden-surfaces, and more-over the area value of an area buffer 5 and the luminance value of a luminance buffer 3 are updated. After processing all the graphics, a filter controller 6 mixes the luminances of respectively adjacent picture elements as for all the picture elements based on the value of the area buffer 5 and the depth value of the depth buffer 4. Thus, the jag (jaggy) in the edge part of the graphic is removed, that mean, a smooth edge process can be realized.
