PURPOSE:To improve the magnetic conversion efficiency by setting a gap depth from a slide-contact surface of a magnetic recording medium of a leading side magnetic core end face, to <=10mum, and setting the depth from a slide-contact surface of the end face of a trailing side magnetic core, to >=100mum. CONSTITUTION:The first magnetic gap 4 is formed to a prescribed thickness by a non-magnetic thin film layer in the vicinity of an end face 1a of a leading side magnetic core 1, a magnetic metal thin film layer 3 is formed to a prescribed thickness in the vicinity of the first magnetic gap 4, and the second magnetic gap 5 is formed between the magnetic metal thin film layer 3 and an end face 2a of a trailing side magnetic core 2. In this state, a gap depth Gd being the depth from a slide-contact surface 10 of a magnetic recording medium of the end face 1a of the leading side magnetic core 1, and the depth from the slide-contact surface 10 of the end face 2a of the trailing side magnetic core 2 are selected to <=10mum, and >=100mum, respectively. In such a way, an influence of a secondary gap pulse generated by the second magnetic gap 5 is suppressed, and the electromagnetic conversion efficiency is improved.
