PURPOSE:To obtain a heat-resistant inorg. pigment having excellent chemical and thermal stability and weather resistance, by mixing a metal alkoxide with a hydrophylic inorg. pigment in an inert organofluorine compd. and hydrolyzing it. CONSTITUTION:A hydrophilic inorg. pigment is mixed with a metal alkoxide in an inert. organofluorine compd. and the metal alkoxide is then hydrolyzed to coat the surface of the pigment with a metal oxide, thus obtaining the desired heat-resistant inorg. pigment. Examples of the hydrophilic inorg. pigment are org. pigments (e.g., cadmium pigments), white pigments (e.g., zinc white), extender pigments (e.g., bariam sulfate), etc. Examples of the inert organofluorine compd. are perfluoroalkanes, perfluoro cyclic ethers, etc. If desired, a small amount of an alcohol may be added to improve the miscibility of the metal alkoxide. When a large amount of the alcohol is added, the metal alkoxide undergoes hydrolysis in the alcohol so that the use of such a large amount of an alcohol is wasteful.
