PURPOSE:To assure corrosion resistance and lubricity by laminating protective layers on a magnetic metallic medium so that the pinholes existing in a 1st layer are shut off by the 2nd layer and further, incorporating a solid lubricating agent into the 2nd layer. CONSTITUTION:This memory medium is formed by coating at least one kind of oxide as the 1st layer protective film on the surface of the thin magnetic metallic medium and coating a mixture composed of a silicon or titanium compd. and org. comp. having a lubricating effect as the 2nd layer protective film on said oxide. The oxide which is the 1st layer protective film is selected from the oxide of Si, Cr, Zr, Ti, Ta, and Nb. Tetramethoxysilane and aminosilane are preferable as the silicon compd. of the protective film of the 2nd layer and tetrabutoxysilane, etc., are preferable for the titanium compd. of said film. The corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and lubricity are thereby improved and the long-period reliability is assured.
