PURPOSE:To produce a resin which is of good quality and has excellent processability and high heat resistance without causing lowering in other properties, a by adding a specified phosphorus compd. as a flame retarder in producing a phenolic resin. CONSTITUTION:In producing a phenolic resin, an aminomethylphosphonic acid derivative having a reduced number of hydroxyl groups, introduced phenyl groups and an increased MW, obtd. by reacting diethyl N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl) aminomethylphosphonate (A) with an arom. diisocyanate (B), is used as a flame retarder. The compd. A has been conventionally added to obtain flame-retarded phenolic resins. However, the effect obtd. thereby is insufficient. By adding the compd. obtd. by reacting the compd. A with the compd. B, heat resistance can be improved without causing lowering in other properties.
