PURPOSE:To enable drying of a thick wet gel in a short time in high yield and to obtain a high-quality glass, by drying a wet gel in a state wrapped with a semipermeable film. CONSTITUTION:A wet gel having a thickness of >=20mm is produced by hydrolyzing a solution of metal alkoxide, adding fine silica powder thereto, repeating ultrasonic irradiation and stirring of the mixture, adjusting the pH of the obtained sol and gelatinizing the sol in a specific time. The obtained wet gel is wrapped with a semipermeable film (e.g. PE film), dried by heating at 70-90 deg.C and sintered. |
