PURPOSE:To transmit information on paper size to be fed out of plural types of paper size to a copying machine, by operating a reed switch of a copying machine body by means of magnetic force of an electromagnet corresponding to the paper size being fed, in case of a multistage paper feeder. CONSTITUTION:At the side of a copying machine body 41, there are provided with two paper feed cassette insertion ports 42, and a paper feed cassette for a small number of sheets is inserted into an upper insertion port 42a. An inserting part 31 of a multistage paper feeder body is inserted into a lower insertion port 42b. In the recess front of the insertion port 42 of the copying machine body 41, plural pieces, for example, four reed switches 44 lined up in paper inside and outside directions are attached thereto, whereby reading of paper size from the paper feeding side takes place. The reed switch 44b at the side of the insertion port 42b is set up so as to cause the electromagnet 11 to come to an adjacent position looking from the side of the reed switch 44b, in making each electromagnet 11 correspond to each reed switch 44 when the inserting part 31 is inserted.
