PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of scales by installing plural inert gas spouting members toward a table roller carrying metal stocks and arranging the spouting members in series in the stock carrying direction. CONSTITUTION:Spouting pipes 18, 20, 22 supplying gaseous N2 as an inert gas are installed over and under a table roller 12 carrying a steel stock 14, respectively. A central face 24 and both side slant faces 26, 28 are formed on the spouting pipes, narrow and long slits 30, 32, 34 on the respective faces are also formed so that the gaseous N2 from a spouting gas supply device 36 is spouted onto the upper and lower surfaces of the stock 14. The pipes 18, 20, 22 are properly and selectively used and a gas supply amount is controlled by valves 42, 44 in accordance with the size of the carried stock 14. Thus, the generation of scales are prevented and wasteful use of the inert gas is eliminated because the inert gas surely covers the surface of the stock 14.
