PURPOSE:To realize noise reduction of exhaust gas of the engine in the caption without causing any resistance to exhaust gas flow, by connecting compartments, which are formed by dividing the crankcase of the engine with partition walls, to the exhaust gas passage of the engine via pressure wave delivering pipes so that the pressure waves from the pressure wave delivering pipes and the inertia wave of the exhaust gas may suppress each other. CONSTITUTION:The crankcase 8 of a multiple-cylinder diesel engine 1 is divided by partition walls 10 into compartments 111-116 (111, 112, 113,4, 115, 116) so as to separate those compartments which have different piston cycles from each other. These compartments 111-116 are connected to the main exhaust pipe 4 of the engine 1 via delivering pipes 121-126 in such a manner that the upper ports 13 on the main exhaust pipe 4 for those of the pressure wave delivery pipes which have common piston cycle shall be located at the same distance lengthwise. The pressure waves generated in the compartments 111-116 by the movement of pistons are thus led to the main exhaust pipe 4, causing the pressure waves from the pressure wave delivering pipes to overlap the exhaust inertia waves in the exhaust gas pipe, making both waves suppress each other.
