The appts. (3) applies symbols to drawings or similar by coupling to a drawing machine and using a keyboard (9) to enter the symbols, a write element to apply the symbols to the drawing and a control unit to control the write element in response to the keyboard. The write element consists of a thermal print head fixed to a carriage controlled by the control unit. The carriage has a cylindrical guideblock that slides in a tube. A support board carrying the thermal head is connected to the guideblock and extends through an axial slot in the tube.
