PURPOSE:To make it possible to subject a desired substance to at least one of melting, sublimation, carbonization and combustion, by utilizing heat generation due to contact resistance between two good conductors brought into contact with each other at the time of energization. CONSTITUTION:An extremely thin substance 5, e.g., a sheet-shaped fibrous body, a paper or a film is placed on a good conductor 4, and a needle-shaped electrode 3 is once pressed to penetrate through the substance 5 to make contact with the good conductor 4, thereby forming a contact part. When heat is generated at the contact part by energization, a thermal effect such as melting, sublimation, carbonization and combustion can be produced at the part where the electrode 3 penetrates through the substance 5. This method is extremely effective in the case of melting. After the penetrated part of the thin substance 5 starts melting, the electrode 3 is gradually slidden while maintaining the heat generation by keeping the electrode 3 in contact with the good conductor 4, whereby a heat generating part is steadily slidden, so that the thin substance 5 placed on the good conductor 4 is continuously melted and cut. |
