The probes are immersed in storage battery cells to determine level of electrolyte therein. This entails release of the probes for generation of an electric signal, and is designed to allow the electrolyte level in a large number of battery cells to be monitored with a high degree of operating safety. Thus, a separate probe (2) is lowered into the electrolyte of each battery cell (1) and the voltages of these probes are tapped off to one terminal of the battery, and evaluated. The voltages are specif. tapped off to the positive terminal of the battery (5). The circuit arrangements include a visual display using digital units.
