Polysulphided olefin compsn. is obtd. by a process including: (1) reacting sulphur mono- and/or di-chloride (1 mole) with 2-5C mono-olefin(s) (1.5-2.5 moles), thus forming an adduct; (2) contacting (A) the adduct with (B) unsatd. monohalogenated hydrocarbon(s), so that (B) provides 1-70 atoms % of the halogen in ((A+B) 0.4-0.8 moles of (C) (hydro)sulphide(s) or polysulphide(s) of alkali(ne earth) metals or ammonium per g atom of halogen in (A+B), and 0-7 moles of (D) sulphur per mole (C), in a medium of H2O and opt. an aliphatic monoalcohol; and (3) heating the resulting mixt., sepn. into 2 phases, and recovering the polysulphided olefin in the organic phase.
