PURPOSE:To improve ignitability and combustibility, by a method wherein a combustion chamber, the opening diameter of which is gradually increased along an axial direction, is formed in the top part of a piston, and a fuel injection nozzle having plural nozzle holes being different in an opening area, is disposed in an eccentric position in the combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:A combustion chamber 3, dented along an axial direction based on a top surface 2a serving as a reference surface, is formed in a top part 2 of a piston 1. An opening diameter D of the combustion chamber 3 is gradually increased along an axial direction, and this constitution causes formation of a radially internally protruded lip part 5 formed to a portion extended along an inlet part opening 6 of the combustion chamber 3. A fuel injection nozzle 9 is disposed in a position offset from the axis position of the combustion chamber 3, an the injection nozzle 9 is formed with plural injection holes 8a-8d formed circumferentially at intervals in the tip part of a nozzle body 10. The injection holes 8a-8d are formed such that they have opening areas d1-d4 responding to distances l1-l4 between each injection hole and the inner peripheral wall of the combustion chamber.
