PURPOSE:To prevent plating efficiency from lowering in iron electroplating using an insoluble electrode by preferentially reducing Fe<3+> in a plating bath by adding a reduction accelerator when plating metal is dissolved and supplied to the bath. CONSTITUTION:Iron electroplating is carried out in a plating bath using an insoluble electrode. When plating metal is dissolved and supplied to the plating bath, a reduction accelerator is added to the bath. The amount of the accelerator added is about 1.0-10g/l when the accelerator is oxycarboxylic acid, amino acid, ammonia, hydrochloric acid or hydrofluoric acid. The amount is about 0.1-10g/l when the accelerator is ascorbic acid, o-phenanthroline or thiocyanic acid. The concn. of Fe<3+> in the plating bath is kept at a low level, and the plating productivity is improved.
