PURPOSE:The reaction mixture mainly composed of low-pressure phase boron nitride and a solvent, and cubic particles of boron nitride as crystal seeds are arranged regularly and high-temperature and high-pressure treatment is effected to enable the growth of cubic crystals of boron nitride of uniform particle size in high yield. CONSTITUTION:The low pressure phase boron nitride, an alkali metal as a solvent, both of which constitute the main components, when necessary, other metal such as Si as a crystal growth regulator and cubic particles of boron nitride (CBN) as crystal seeds are arranged regularly in a plane or three dimension. Then, they are exposed to the pressure and temperature in the CBN stable zone in the superhigh pressure vessel to effect crystal growth without interferrence between individual seeds and form good-quality CBN crystals of desired particle size. The seeds are put in the holes 2 shown in the figure with an interval of 1, namely 100-1,000mu and the size of the seeds is about 30mu. When necessary, the pressure medium 1 is laminated on the surface, thus the seeds can be arranged regularly in a plane or three dimension.
